When Hillary contacted me about scheduling hers + Mike’s Murrieta ranch engagement session, she said she was excited about having a session that also featured horses! As a veterinarian, Hillary is used to working with all kinds of animals! This was fantastic to hear since I’ve never dealt with horses myself (I don’t think the one ride I took while in Girl Scouts 25 years ago counts). Hillary and Mike had a family friend with a horse farm that graciously allowed us to shoot on their property. One of their sweet horses was such a good sport. In fact, by the end of the session he really warmed up to the camera! We shot this session in early summer and there was still lots of pretty greenery on the ranch. Not to mention the light was simply beautiful!

I love this dress Hillary chose for their session! My biggest tips when it comes to picking outfits are 1) keep it simple! A pattern is fine but you don’t want something overly busy and 2) consider your environment! Maxi dresses are a great choice for engagement sessions! And the pattern here is perfect for the ranch setting! Can’t you tell by this last image here that Mike really makes Hillary laugh? :) I just love the way the light is filtering through the trees here…just magical! Meet sweet Ruby! She’s been with Hillary before Mike came in the picture! I love that she was part of the session! I love the sign here: “He asked and we said yes!” :) I can’t wait for their Forever and Always Farm wedding next year!
