In spring 2019, the "superbloom" was in full effect in Lake Elsinore! It created such a frenzy on social media that over 100,000 weekend visitors were reported coming to the Walker Canyon area just to get a peek at the vivid orange poppies. In fact, the poppies could be seen from space.
For this Lake Elsinore engagement session, I wanted to get some fun images of the couple that showed the wildflower colors. I also dearly wanted to avoid Walker Canyon, since living just a few miles away from the main freeway exit, I knew what a nightmare it was! Fortunately I was able to find a few tucked-away, low-traffic areas so the couple and I could have some privacy but also get some great images.
This particular image was composed thanks to Canon's double-exposure menu setting. I've always loved the look of double-exposures and knew how to merge files in Photoshop, but it was an extra challenge getting it done in-camera. The key is the silhouette! I took the main silhouette image of the couple a couple of hours before sunset, so there was a nice contrast between them and the sky. I then shot several images of wildflowers until I found a combination that seemed just right. I love the end result - fun, bright, and boho-inspired!
